It has been a while....

It has been a while since our last blog and a lot has happened....

With the completion on our new orangery we ran a competition to name our restaurant, we can announce the winning name was Forelles after a pear variety which we grow in our garden, this was eagerly spotted by a guest staying at the time when the owner was planting them. We celebrated by having an evening of Jazz to accompany dinner, which was provided by the excellent Cate Cody and her band.

Wedding season also arrived in style with our first wedding of the year on Saturday 26th March 2011. Helen and Phil had a grown up elegant affair, firstly marrying in an intimate civil ceremony held at the hotel followed by a seven course tasting menu and matching wines. Both Helen and Phil are real foodies and wanted this to be the main part of the day, they both worked closely with David (Head Chef) on designing a completely individual menu. Helen also wanted her guests to know why the wine had been chosen for each course and our Restaurant Manager made many friends that night by going around explaining the wine matches, it was a really special touch!

Sunday 17th April saw the first of our two Wedding Fayres for 2011 in conjunction with Ludlow Castle, the day was a huge success with record numbers and we couldn’t have asked for better weather! Joining up with the Castles means we can offer couples twice as much; we had suppliers at both venues with a vintage bus provided by Boultons of Shropshire running couples between both venues throughout the day.
Date for your diary – Second Wedding Fayre, Sunday 9th October 2011, 11am to 4pm. Free Entry.

Friday 29th April saw our own Royal Wedding, Jo and Zac chose to have small civil ceremony at the hotel surrounding by their closest friends and family followed by an intimate wedding breakfast in our Lounge for 27 people, they then invited everyone else to celebrate in the evening with them with a great party! On a cheeky note Jo and Zac gave their guests a mug each in the style of the ‘Royal Wedding’. They were also the first couple to get married in our new Orangery.

On Sunday 1st May saw Carly and Graham getting married at the hotel. Carly had chosen a lovely spring theme with long stemmed Calla lilies in tall vases and lemon yellow chair sashes, 70 friends and family helped them to celebrate their special day. The couple chose to have a buffet and Hog roast for their wedding breakfast, with Graham’s mum making the wedding cake which was served as dessert. The evening’s music was provided by The Supersets a band the couple had seen on several occasions, they really knew how to get people up on the dance floor, providing hits by Stevie Wonder to Kings of Leon. In between their sets a friend of the couple provided his skills as a DJ who kept people dancing until 3am!

That’s all for now, keep your eye out for our next blog which will talk about our upcoming events programme for Summer 2011.

We have just enjoyed the weekend at Burgoynes of Lyonshall, Wedding Fayre where we were exhibiting with Ludlow Castle.

It was two days well spent meeting lots of lovely couples, giving out plenty of our Outside Catering Menu Packs and booking a show round of the hotel and Ludlow Castle!

Congrats Malcolm (Burgoynes) on an excellent Fayre....looking forward to next year!
